History of Bath

Contrary to the initial assumptions that there is oil in the area - from a depth of 651 meters, 81-degree water, which has since become famous for its outstanding healing properties, has come to the surface. The development of Igal was clearly founded by this exploration and the decision made in the sixties - to build a spa in the settlement.

On August 20, 1962, the first two pools were handed over, and they were winterized three years later, so the spa's services could be used all year round. In 1967, a swimming pool and three children's pools were built, and eight years later, another pool was added to the institution, the area of which became larger in the meantime, as the council bought a significant plot of land on the hillside surrounding the spa. This was necessary, as thousands of guests often visited the spa on a hot summer weekend.

The 100% municipality-owned Igali spa, which was just forty years old in 2002, has been operating as a spa since the spring of 2001. The development of the institution did not stop even in 2003, in the summer the indoor spa, built as the largest investment to date, was handed over, where guests can enjoy all health services in one place. At the same time, tourists visiting here can now use a full range of bathing and healing services. The two indoor and two open thermal pools are filled with 76 degrees Celsius therapeutic water set at different temperatures, so everyone can find the most ideal one for them.

In recent years, our spa has been able to continue to be built and beautified even without tender funds and capital investors. In 2008, the shade arching over the two external thermal pools was handed over, which, in addition to being a spectacular architectural solution, also serves a great purpose, as it ensures the cozy possibility of bathing outside in all weather conditions.

At the beginning of 2010, with an investment of 60 million, the new service building was completed, which provides the employees of the spa with modern working conditions, with the mechanical warehouses, changing rooms and dining room created there.

In June 2012, the spa's largest investment to date was handed over, which was realized with a European Union grant of nearly HUF 600 million. With the expansion, the built-up area increased by 1,400 m2, a new reception area, cafeteria, and business premises were created. Two separate men's and women's changing rooms, each capable of accommodating 300 people, new shower blocks and 5 treatment rooms have been completed.

The water surface has increased by 150m2, which includes 1 indoor experience pool with a float, 1 indoor children's experience pool, 1 outdoor experience pool with therapeutic water and a completely new sauna world with a plunge pool. In the latter, infrared and Finnish saunas of different temperatures are available to guests.

Igal became the first certified health resort in Somogy county and the 26th in Hungary. On October 7, 2016, Igal received the decision certifying it as a health resort issued by the ÁNTSZ OTH, thanks to which the spa town of Somogy joined the list of the most recognized medical tourism destinations in the country. The territory of the qualified spa encompasses the wider surroundings of the Igali Spa.

In our spa with a family atmosphere, all age groups will find the most ideal relaxation option for them. Nearly 200,000 visitors visit the spa every year. Discover Igal and the exceptional properties of Igali medicinal water!
